The Destination

Teresópolis
Known for its nature especially the gorgeous mountains which surround the city. It is the highest town in the State of Rio de Janeiro, nestled in the Serra dos Órgãos at an altitude of 910 meters or 3,000 feet. This mountain town is home to about 150,000 inhabitants who are friendly and helpful. Moreover, the city is a popular tourist destination.
 
Penedo
 
Founded by the Finns, this is where Brazilians were introduced to the concept of a Finnish sauna. The history is of Penedo quite interesting. Though today there are few descendants of the original founders, the village retained its Alpine scenery, and European charm. Typical handcraft, rustic carpets, and Finnish chutney are some of the products you will find for sale at local shops.

Nova Friburgo

 

It is located in the mountainous region, in the Center Mesoregion of the state, 136 km (85 mi) from its capital Rio de Janeiro. The town is 846 meters (2,776 ft) above sea, it’s also the coldest city of the state. Founded by Swiss colonists in the image of their homeland, Nova Friburgo stands as a monument to Brazil's diverse ethnic heritage and entices visitors with its notable natural attractions.
